Engineers to Present Recommendations to Fix Lawler Falls Park Ponds

SUISUN CITY, Calif. - The Suisun City Parks and Recreation Commission will receive a report on Sept. 1, 2010, from KASL Consulting Engineers regarding the perpetually leaky Lawler Falls Park ponds.

KASL was hired by the City Council in June, following a competitive bidding process, to conduct a comprehensive investigation and study to identify the factors contributing to the water loss.

The resulting study included a thorough inspection of the facility, and a report that identifies deficiencies and provides recommendations to restore the ponds and pump circulation system to full operations with minimal water loss.

The ponds in Lawler Falls Park have leaked for some time, despite the best efforts of City engineers to determine the source of the leak and at least one attempted repair.

KASL will present its report and recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Commission at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1 in the City Council Chamber at City Hall, 701 Civic Center Blvd.

General Plan Guiding Principles to be Considered by City Council

SUISUN CITY, Calif. - On Tuesday (Aug. 17), the Suisun City Council will consider confirming guiding principles for the update to the City's General Plan.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. in Suisun City Hall, 701 Civic Center Blvd.

Many jurisdictions throughout California have chosen to establish guiding principles at the beginning of their General Plan Update process to assist in the development of the General Plan.

The creation of such principles is usually followed by the development of (or confirmation of) goals, objectives and implementation measures in the final General Plan. The vision of the plan is “what” you want to accomplish, while the guiding principles are “how” you would accomplish that vision.

The General Plan is the main community planning document required for every community in California. It is designed to outline acceptable uses for every section of the city to ensure orderly development of homes, businesses, parks, schools, transportation and other community facilities.

Residents invited to give input on future of Suisun City

SUISUN CITY - The Suisun City Planning Commission will hold a workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 10, 2010, on the comprehensive update of the City's General Plan.

The focus of the workshop, which will be held at City Hall, is to discuss the General Plan Update status and upcoming milestones, and to continue soliciting input and comments from Suisun City residents.

It is the intention of the Planning Commission to hold periodic workshops on the General Plan as the update process continues over the next 12-18 months.

The General Plan is the main community planning document required for every community in California. It is designed to outline acceptable uses for every section of the city to ensure orderly development of homes, businesses, parks, schools, transportation and other community facilities.

State law requires that a city’s General Plan be updated periodically so it remains an accurate reflection of the city’s existing and intended development, and the environmental impacts of planned growth. It guides decision making in the community regarding city goals.

Since Suisun City’s General Plan was last updated, state law changed to require that issues such as climate change and green house gas reduction be considered when planning future development.

In April 2010, the Suisun City Council approved a contract with AECOM to assist city planners update the General Plan.
