Notice Issued Seeking Construction Bids for Grizzly Island Trail Project

SUISUN CITY, Calif. - The Building & Public Works Department has issued a notice seeking construction bids for the Grizzly Island Trail Project.

The project is located along a portion of Highway 12, between Marina Boulevard and Grizzly Island Road. The planned work includes:

• a 0.8-mile-long concrete pathway parallel to portions of Marina Boulevard and Highway 12, and
• a 0.13-mile-long sidewalk along Grizzly Island Road.

The pathway adjacent to Marina Boulevard and Highway 12 will be 12-feet wide, and the portion adjacent to Grizzly Island Road will be sidewalks with varying widths. Other improvements include a school bus turnout and parking stalls in the southeastern portion of the work along Grizzly Island Road and other ancillary work. Other locations along the new pathway may include seat walls or other features that will require lightly loaded foundations. The site is at a relatively low elevation and some areas of the project may receive fills a few feet thick to improve drainage and for compliance with ADA criteria.

Pintail Drive Rehabilitation Project Construction Begins Tuesday

SUISUN CITY, Calif. - Construction work on the $500,000 Pintail Drive Rehabilitation Project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, and continue through about mid-November, depending on weather conditions.

The work will include significant sidewalk and curb work, isolated road base repair, and complete roadway resurfacing of Pintail Drive from Sunset Avenue to Emperor Drive. Road base repair and crack sealing on Pintail Drive will extend from Emperor Drive to Walters Road.

To limit the impact to nearby residents, all work is to be conducted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work hours or times may be extended for construction conflicts or emergencies.

During the entire construction period, the contractor - Ghilotti Construction Co. - is required to maintain through traffic controls to allow traffic flow and bus service through the construction zone. However, some unavoidable traffic delays and detours are to be expected during the construction period.

Construction and Public Works officials are coordinating all work to minimize impact upon the Suisun City Library, Suisun Elementary School, the Suisun City Fire Department, and ongoing construction of the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Chyrl Way Rehabilitation Project Now Open for Bidding

SUISUN CITY, Calif. - During the current construction season, Chryl Way will see major improvement work ranging from new sewer mains and water service lines to an entirely new street surface, according to a project announcement released by the Suisun City Public Works Department.

The Chyrl Way Rehabilitation Project is another collaboration between Suisun City Public Works and Suisun-Solano Water Authority. The two agencies have coordinated major water service and street repair work for several years to minimize disruption to residents, and reduce costs of the work.

The project will remove the entire street surface on Chryl Way from Blossom Avenue to Humphrey Drive to allow the sewer mains and water service lines to be replaced. Once the underground work is complete, the roadway, including curbs, gutters and curb ramps, will be rebuilt.

Construction firms interested in the work have until July 28, 2011, to submit their bids. Officials expect the construction work to be underway by late summer.

Bidding Opens for Firms to Repair Lawler Falls Park Ponds

SUISUN CITY — The Public Works Department has issued a notice to contractors seeking bids the repair and reconstruction of the Lawler Falls Park Ponds.

The public bidding process follows City Council authorization to repair and rehabilitate the ponds, which had been inoperable due to an undetermined leakage problem.

Lawler Falls Park is located in Lawler Ranch and was built in the late 1980’s. The Park has a waterfall and a two- tier lower pond basin with a circulation system. >> map >>

Last summer, KASL Consulting Engineers inspected the ponds and concluded that a new geomembrane liner be installed to prevent water seepage through the bottom of the ponds.

Qualified firms are invited to review the project plans and specifications to submit a bid by June 16. Construction work is expected to begin shortly thereafter.

The work plan requires the removal of the existing ponds and reconstructing them with a new liner to prevent leaking issues that kept the ponds from functioning properly.

Suisun City Public Works Reissues Main Street Project Bid Announcement

SUISUN CITY — The Suisun City Public Works Department has re-issued the bid documents for the Main Street Rehabilitation Project that is expected to take place during the upcoming summer construction season.

The project, which has an estimated bonding value of $600,000, is funded by a grant through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The project entails making major repairs to Main Street from Solano Avenue to near Lotz Way. In areas where the subgrade has settled, pavement, curb, gutters and sidewalks will be replaced. When that work is completed, the entire street will receive a pavement overlay and new street markings.

The Main Street Rehabilitation Project follows the 2009 Sunset Avenue Rehabilitation Project in which the entire length of Sunset Avenue was resurfaced from Highway 12 to Railroad Avenue.

Public Works staff will coordinate construction scheduling carefully to minimize impacts to both Waterfront District businesses and nearby residents. A project page will be added to the Public Works website so everyone interested in the project can follow key developments.

Suisun City Public Works Cancels Bid Notice for Main Street Project

SUISUN CITY - The Suisun City Public Works Department has canceled its notice for bidders to submit proposals for the Main Street Rehabilitation Project that is expected to take place during the upcoming summer construction season.

As a result, bids will not be received on May 20, 2010.

The City will re-advertised the project and will make new bid documents available to bidders on or about May 24, 2010. Registered plan holders who purchased bid documents may request new documents at no additional charge.

The original scope of the project entailed making major repairs to Main Street from Solano Avenue to near Lotz Way. In areas where the subgrade has settled, pavement, curb, gutters and sidewalks will be replaced. When that work is completed, the entire street will receive a pavement overlay and new street markings.

Public Works Engineering staff is making modifications to the bid documents prior to re-advertising the project.

SUNSET AVENUE WEEKEND CLOSURES

New Railroad Crossing Arms Key Step to Enhance Public Safety

SUISUN CITY – Union Pacific Railroad will replace the automatic crossing guards on Sunset Avenue between Travis Boulevard and Railroad Avenue this weekend necessitating periodic roadway closures between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. both Saturday (July 18) and Sunday (July 19).

The closures were scheduled during for the weekend due to the lighter traffic flows. During the closures, motorists should watch for construction signs and detours indicating alternate routes. However, motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible to minimize any inconvenience.

The new guards will be installed in a two-step process. Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, crews will install the guard arm across the southbound lanes between Travis Boulevard and Railroad Avenue. This work will be completed by 2 p.m. On Sunday, crews will work on the arms across the northbound lanes following the same schedule.

Installation of the new warning gate assemblies is a key part of the roadway expansion and safety enhancements installed in recent months by the City of Suisun City and the Union Pacific Railroad. This installation is one of the final steps to complete this project.
